The short version
Old Town Atlas collects as little personal information as possible. We collect your email if you subscribe to our newsletter, and we use standard analytics to understand site traffic. We don’t sell your data, ever.
What we collect
Email address: if you submit the email signup form. We also store the IP address you signed up from, as a record of opt-in.
Approximate location: if you grant browser geolocation or type an address into the “Use my location” field on the homepage. This is used only to sort towns by distance from you. It’s stored in your browser’s local storage, not on our servers.
Analytics: we use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to count visits, see which pages get traffic, and understand general usage patterns. This uses cookies and may include limited information like browser type, country, and pages viewed.
How we use it
Your email is used to send you the occasional Old Town Atlas dispatch — new towns, trip ideas, the occasional note. We use analytics to make decisions about which towns to feature and which features to build.
Who we share it with
Flodesk — our email service provider. When you sign up, your email is sent to Flodesk, which stores and delivers our newsletter. Their privacy policy is at flodesk.com/privacy-policy.
Google (Firebase) — our hosting, database, and analytics provider. Standard Google data handling applies.
That’s it. We don’t sell or rent your data to anyone.
Cookies
The site uses cookies for analytics (Firebase Analytics) and for storing your preferences (e.g., the location you saved for distance sort). You can clear these via your browser settings at any time; the site will still work.
Children
Old Town Atlas isn’t directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email we send. To request that we delete any record of you, email phil@wondercitystudio.com and we’ll do it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, if the changes are significant, mention them in a newsletter.
